Audio Visualisation

Visual plugins are more than just a pretty new type of screensaver: they're a new kind of art form. OK, so simple visualisations are like watching the TV with the sound off and the radio playing - interesting but not really an experience. However, a good vis will react to the music. It should capture the essence of the particular piece you're playing and modify itself accordingly. It should understand, enjoy, grok the music. I know I'm not there yet but I'm trying...

OS X / iTunes

Download your free iTunes visual plugins here! I only bought my Mac recently so the iTunes plugins aren't as advanced as my Sonique ones yet, but they're still fun. To install, download the file and follow the instructions in the ReadMe file - basically just copy the .bundle file into your Library/iTunes/iTunes-Plugins folder.

Windows / Sonique

My first visual plugins were all written for Sonique from around 2001 onwards. Unfortunately since then Sonique has stopped development and Lycos pretend that Sonique never happened. There is an mp3 player called XMPlay that can play these too though, so you can try that.
To install one of these visuals, download the .svp file from here and save it somewhere (anywhere) under the Sonique/vis/ directory, where you installed the main program, and restart your machine.
All the plugins have options and extra info to play with if you click on them.
